Ceiling fans are definitely on that list, as it's an ordeal to haul out a ladder and brush them by hand, which may be why this one cleaning hack keeps going viral.

A simple question on Reddit, posted a year ago and reported by Domino, asked, "What is the best cleaning tip you've ever received?" The whole thread of responses is interesting, like the suggestion to melt old toothbrushes with a lighter to create handy, curved scrubbers, but the tip that got 100+ responses was about dusting off fans.

"To clean ceiling fans, put a pillow case over the blades, and then slide them off—it'll pull the dust/debris back inside of the case," wrote user janeventure. Other Reddit users posted so many follow-up questions that the person then clarified: "edit - i personally just empty out the pillow case into the bin afterwards, and then wash it, and it's fine?" Ta-dah!

It's an especially good trick because as opposed to other methods, like wiping with a cloth or even with a Swiffer extended over your head, you're not risking a big chunk of dust falling onto your head. Ew! Plus, it puts to use those old pillow cases stained with mascara or whatever that you really should have thrown out a while ago. Win win!
