Simply soak a cloth or rag in white vinegar and rub it on any rusted areas you wish to remove. Let it sit for a few minutes, and then scrub with a hard-bristle brush. (Perhaps some elbow grass is needed.) Repeat the process if any of the rust spots remain. Once you get rid of all the rust, clean with a bar of dish soap and water, followed by a towel dry.

4. Salted on Potato, and Dish Soap

Most people would probably resort to harsh chemicals or even a grinder to rid their item of the problem, but those options are often too harsh for the task and can result in permanent damage. You might be wondering, out of all things, potato. However, all potatoes are rich in oxalic acid, and this has been one of the main ingredients in most cleaning products. Oxalic acid helps disintegrates rust, and you may use a bar of standard dish soap and potato to clean off bits of metal without detailing. Cut the potato in half and spread salt (or baking soda) onto the potato, coat the cut with dish soap. Salt/baking soda is a gentle abrasive that can help to break the rust off until it disintegrates.
